The title proves relevance; the description earns the click

A search result gives you two pieces of copy. The title tag is the headline: it tells Google what the page is about, and it is the first thing a searcher reads when deciding whether you are relevant. The meta description is the pitch you write for the space beneath that headline, and a meta description generator exists because writing that pitch well, for every page, is harder than it looks.

When your description shows, its job is the click: to tell the searcher what the page offers and why it is worth their time. That pairing is why this page works as a meta title and description generator rather than two separate tools β€” the headline and the pitch have to argue for the same page.

Google writes its own snippet when yours doesn't earn the place

You are not the only author in the search results. Google states that it builds snippets primarily from the content on the page, and uses the meta description element when it describes the page better than other content (Google Search Central). A snippet you did not write is not a malfunction; it is Google answering that query with what it judged the better summary.

How often does the supplied description lose that comparison? A 2020 study by Ahrefs that compared hardcoded descriptions with live snippets across 20,000 keywords found Google rewrote the meta description 62.78% of the time β€” and that 25.02% of top-ranking pages had no meta description at all.

A separate study measured titles. In a 2022 Zyppy analysis of 80,959 title tags across 2370 sites, Google rewrote 61.6% of them, including 99.9% of titles over 70 characters β€” worth knowing whether you write titles by hand or lean on a title tag generator: accuracy and restraint are the best defence against a rewrite.

Write yours anyway. A page with no description hands the snippet to Google every time; a page with a good one gives Google a reason to keep it.

Write the title for the query, the description for the decision

Every strong pair does three things: names the page exactly, mirrors the words the searcher used, and makes one specific, keepable promise. What that looks like depends on the page. The examples below are invented to show the pattern β€” swap in your own specifics.

Service page

For a commercial cleaning firm in Manchester:

Title
Commercial Cleaning in Manchester | Contract & One-Off
Description
Daily office, retail and industrial cleaning across Greater Manchester. Vetted teams, one point of contact, and a quote within one working day.

The service and the city come first, because that is the query; the firm's own name, if there is room, sits at the end. The description answers the buyer's next three questions: what you clean, who turns up, and how fast you respond.

Product page

For an online footwear shop:

Title
Men's Waterproof Leather Walking Boots
Description
Leather walking boots with a waterproof membrane and a grippy rubber sole. Sizes 7–13, free delivery over Β£60, 60-day returns.

Lead with the attributes the buyer filters by β€” material, waterproofing β€” then the sizes, delivery and returns terms they check before they commit.

Blog post

Title
How to Fix a Leaking Tap: A Ten-Minute Repair Guide
Description
Stop a dripping tap without calling a plumber. The tools you need, the two washer types and a step-by-step fix that takes about ten minutes.

The title is the article's promise; the description previews the payoff and the effort involved. If the headline itself is still undecided, our blog title generator produces article headlines the way this meta title generator produces search titles.

Local business

For a plumber serving Leeds:

Title
Emergency Plumber in Leeds | 24/7 Callout
Description
Gas Safe registered engineers on call day and night across Leeds. Burst pipes, boiler breakdowns and blocked drains, with no callout fee.

On a local page, the city and availability do the selling; credentials and a no-fee promise lower the perceived risk of picking up the phone.

Judge length in pixels, not characters

Google documents no character limit for a meta description: the snippet is simply truncated as needed, typically to fit the device width (Google Search Central). Titles are cut by width as well β€” Zyppy's measurements put desktop title truncation at about 600 pixels, roughly 60 characters of average width, and in its 2022 study the 51–60 character band was rewritten least, at 39% to 42%.

Descriptions get less room. Portent's 2020 measurements put desktop snippets at up to about 155 characters and mobile at about 120: dated, approximate observations, not limits, because Google truncates by width rather than count. That is why the tool meters pixels instead of characters β€” ten narrow letters fit where ten capital Ws do not. Front-load both elements, so that if truncation comes it cuts the tail and not the point.

The mistakes that get metadata ignored

Duplicate descriptions. Every page needs a description that describes it specifically; one site-wide boilerplate tells the searcher nothing about the page behind the result. A generator makes per-page copy cheap, so there is no excuse for it.

Keyword strings. A list of terms separated by pipes is not a pitch. Write a sentence a person would actually say about the page.

Promises the page does not keep. A title that oversells the content wins a click the page cannot convert. If the page cannot keep the promise, change the page β€” not just the metadata.

Choosing from the six pairs this meta description generator gives you

Six options is a shortlist, not an answer. Work through them in order. First, intent: which pair best matches what the searcher typing your target query actually wants? Second, specificity: real numbers, places and details beat adjectives. Third, the meters: prefer the options that fit the pixel widths without sacrificing a point. Then edit β€” the generated pair is a strong draft, and the detail only you know, the price or the turnaround, is what makes it yours.

Publish your pick, then give Google time to recrawl the page before you judge the result. Once the change is live, confirm the tags render as you intended with our meta tag checker, and compare the page's click-through rate in Search Console before and after. If impressions rise but clicks do not, come back and test the next-best pair.

Snippets win the click once the page ranks

Metadata can only convert a position your page already holds. If the copy is sound and the page still does not rank, the remaining cause may be off the page rather than on it β€” and building links is a job in itself. That is the job our guest post link building service exists to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the meta description generator work?

Describe the page you are writing metadata for, then choose a tone β€” professional, friendly, persuasive or informative. The tool returns six pairs, each containing an SEO title and a meta description, with a Google result preview and a pixel-width meter for both elements. It works as an SEO title generator and description writer in one pass: pick the pair that fits, edit in your own specifics, and add them to your page.

Is the meta title and description generator free?

Yes. There is no charge and no sign-up: open the page and generate. You get a few generations each day, and after each generation returns, the tool shows how many you have left. If you reach the daily allowance, come back tomorrow β€” or save your favourites so you only spend generations on new pages.

How many titles and descriptions do I get?

Six pairs per generation. Each pair contains one SEO title and one meta description in your chosen tone, shown with a preview of how it could look in a Google result and a pixel-width meter for each element. Six is enough to give you genuinely different angles β€” benefit-led, feature-led, question-led β€” without burying you in near-duplicates.

How long should a meta description be?

Google sets no character limit; it truncates the snippet to fit the device. As a rough working guide, descriptions have been shown at up to about 155 characters on desktop and about 120 on mobile, which is why the tool measures width in pixels rather than characters. Put the important words early, so any truncation cuts the tail and not the point.

Will Google use the meta description I write?

Often, but not always. A 2020 Ahrefs study of 20,000 keywords found Google rewrote meta descriptions 62.78% of the time, usually pulling a passage from the page it judged a better match for the query. Write yours to be the clearest summary of the page and you give Google a reason to keep it; leave it blank and Google writes one every time.

How do I choose between the six generated options?

Start with intent: pick the pair whose promise matches what the searcher wants and what the page actually delivers. Then prefer the most specific option β€” real numbers, places and details beat adjectives. Check the pixel meters, trim anything that overruns, and edit in the facts only you know. Publish the strongest pair and watch the page's click-through rate before testing another.
